Understanding Cholesterol...

Understanding Cholesterol

To understand why we need to lower cholesterol, it is necessary to first understand what cholesterol is. Cholesterol is a fatlike waxy substance, which is produced by the liver. Cholesterol plays an important to overall health and body function but too much cholesterol in the body can cause damage to the body.

Cholesterol forms every cell within the body. When the cholesterol level is appropriate, it plays a life-giving role in many functions of the body. When cholesterol is at a good level it works to build and repair cells, produces hormones such as estrogen and testosterone, and produces bile acids which are proven to aid in the digestion of fat.

Too much cholesterol in the body on the other hand can be damaging as the levels build up and cause blockages by clogging your arteries. This puts you at serious risk for disease such as heart and stroke. In fact, the major cause behind heart attacks and strokes is clogged arteries resulting from high levels of cholesterol.

When you eat saturated foods such as dairy, meat and eggs your cholesterol elevates. On the other hand when you eat foods such as fruits, vegetables, and grains you can maintain optimal health as they do not contain cholesterol.

High cholesterol can be avoided! With a nutritious diet, around 50% of all adult Americans with high cholesterol can regain their health and lower their risk of disease by 2%. This is done simply from reducing cholesterol by 1%.

Cholesterol can be managed for life with success! It is recommended that you visit your physician on a regular basis to keep a keen eye on your levels. Learn healthy, alternative ways to manage your cholesterol without having to rely on medications.

HEART DISEASE - PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

HEART DISEASE - PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE

Heart Disease has always been a public health problem. People are living longer and are healthier than before. A ever-increasing number however will suffer from one form of heart disease or the other in their now-extended lives.

The enormity of the problem

The World Health Organization estimated that 12 million deaths were related to cardiovascular diseases in 1992. One half of all deaths in developed countries like the USA were from heart disease. In developing nations too, the increase in coronary heart disease is reaching epidemic proportions. India and China, which together account for over 50% of the earth's population, together tot up 4.5 to 5 million deaths from heart disease every year.

And that doesn't count the sufferers who don't die, but live with complications and restrictions imposed by their disease. Though not measurable directly, the cost of treating heart disease in American women alone was estimated to be around $250 billion in 1997.

The outlook isn't entirely gloomy, though. Over the past two decades, there has been a significant decline in the incidence of heart disease. In Japan and Australia, 50-60% decline in heart attacks has been recorded since 1980.

What is responsible for this improvement ?

The causes for the decline in heart disease are probably

* decreasing modifiable risk factors - smoking, cholesterol, exercise
* better treatment facilities for heart attacks and strokes
* emphasis on primary prevention rather than treatment

So do you want to become just another heart disease statistic ? I thought not.

5th April is World Health Day.

Make a resolution today.

Decide you will work on modifying your heart disease risk profile now.

The Secret of the World's Oldest Man!

The Secret of the World's Oldest Man

Japanese researchers in the mid 1900's discovered the reason Okinawans live so long and are so healthy, is due to the unusually alkaline and mineral rich water they drink from birth. Okinawans have the longest life span and one of the lowest incidences of chronic disease.

The demonstrably oldest man in the world was Shigechiy lzumi. He lived on Tokonoshima, an island that belongs to the Southern islands of Japan.

In 1980, the head editor of Guinness Book of Records visited this man. When the editor returned to his country, not only did he bring back an interview with the oldest man in the world, but also noted down that lzumi wasn't the only one on this island to be in full vigour at an advanced age. Almost all of the old people were upright, fit and healthy. When lzumi passed away in 1986 he was almost 121 years old.

Reefs Protected: The coral sand is collected from the sea off Okinawa where there is an abundance of Sango coral. Only the sand from the seabed, which is formed when the waves and tide erode the coral reef is collected. The health benefits derived from using coral calcium appear to be exclusive to the Sango coral found only around Okinawa.

Today, over 7 million Japanese add Coral Calcium to their drinking water because of its remarkable ability to boost the autoimmune system and to help many ailments by balancing the body's pH level.

You can now enjoy the vibrant health that this product allows, by simply adding the Natural Coral to your daily drinking water.
